December 2009 This past weekend, I attended the Lone Star ExCom meeting in Austin. The ExCom voted to formally support the Neches River Wild & Scenic Study. Austin, Corpus, Dallas, Alpine, and Beaumont reported on their “Roll Beyond Coal Bike Rides and Rallies” and Ken Kramer reported on the status of the proposed coal plants in Texas.
Congratulations to Kathryn Walker. Kathryn was officially recognized as a member of the Lone Star Chapter’s ExCom Board. It’s great that our group will have a new representative on the state board representing Southeast Texas and giving our small group a voice at the state level. Her term will begin in January.
The election for the open positions on our local ExCom Board will be held during our December 1st meeting. Mailed in paper ballots will be counted and additional nominations will be accepted before the December election. Please think about people that you would like to nominate. New committee members contribute new ideas, new directions, and a new enthusiasm. This is the life blood of all organizations.
Remember, you don’t have to be on the ExCom to be involved. This is a great time to be active in your local group. You can make a difference and contribute to our environmental & conservation initiatives and our outings.
