Sierra Club Calls for Long-Term Analysis of Transmission Projects
The Lone Star Chapter of Sierra Club submitted comments to the state Public Utility Commission (PUC) earlier this week as part of the implementation of HB 971, which among other provisions requires the PUC to consider the cost and benefits of certain “economic” transmission lines for electric power service before approving a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) for any such line.

Comments Due – and Needed – on Plan to Clean Up DFW Air Pollution
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is taking comments [deadline:
Monday, August 8] on the latest version of their State
Implementation Plan (SIP) for the Dallas-Fort Worth airshed in an attempt to meet deadlines for the submittal of SIPs for areas with dangerous levels of ground-level ozone. Unfortunately, the Sierra Club and others have found that the plan:
• fails to adequately address the impact of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from natural gas production and distribution;
• fails to adequately address the impact of nitrogen oxide (NOx) ;emissions from coal plants, and
• will not help Dallas-Fort Worth achieve the 85 parts per billion one-hour federal ozone standard for clean air....Read

Sierra Club Applauds LCRA Decision on White Stallion
Water Contract The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) announced this week that its Board of Directors has postponed indefinitely its decision on the controversial proposed water contract with the White Stallion Energy Center, a proposed power plant that would burn petroleum coke. The LCRA Board was scheduled to vote on the contract at a special meeting in Austin on August 10, but that meeting has been cancelled.
