Chuck is a long-time member of the Austin Sierra Club and an experienced major trip leader. He has led the following major trips for the Austin Sierra Club:
  • Big Bend NP (Primary) - 1996, 1998
  • Escalante/Staircase, UT(Primary) - 2001, 2003, 2006
  • Olympic Peninsula (Primary) - 1997, 2001, 2004, 2007
  • Sawtooth Mountains (Primary) - 1999 (exploratory), 2000, 2005
  • Florida Keys (Primary) - 2003
  • Kauai, Hawaii (Primary) - 1998, 1999
  • Blue Ridge, NC (Exploratory) - 2000
  • Ft. Davis Bike trip (co-leader) - 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007
  • Goose Island SP (Primary) - 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003
  • Buffalo River, AK (co-leader) - 2007
In addition to assisting with or leading lots of other shorter trips to: San Juan, Colorado; White Mountains, New Mexico; Enchanted Rock SP; Llano River SP; Garner SP; Ft. Davis SP, etc., etc. Other types of outings led: Kayak, bike, tubing, horseback.
Certifications:
  • Certified Outings Leader, Austin Sierra Club
  • Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Responder Certification
  • CPR Certification

Kayaking on the Buffalo River

Chuck has also sailed with the crew of Northwest Navigation several times on private trips - he and a couple of friends from the LA area sailed with the David B from Ketchikan, Alaska to Bellingham Washington in 2006. He also assisted the crew of the David B with three 4-day hiking and kayaking trips in the San Juan Islands in the summer of 2007.
