Holiday Party - Potluck Supper
December 13, 2011
About 75 people attended our December 13th party at Lions Field Adult Center. Top 2011 volunteers received baked goods donated by Panera Bread. Decorations by Erica Zeitz, Loretta Van Coppenolle, Chris Anderson and Peggy Day.
Ravenmoor--John Wiesen on acoustic guitar and vocals, Sally Wiesen on fiddle, bodhran and vocals, and Ron Wilson on fiddle, concertina, and mandolin--performed traditional Celtic tunes and songs and original compositions. The trio excited and enchanted us with their haunting airs, rousing pub songs, and toe tapping jigs and reels.

The Alamo Group presented two hands-on activities for visitors at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens’ Viva Botanica. At the center right in the photo here, volunteers Allison Salinas and Jerry Morrisey demonstrate and oversee plant propagation through cuttings and, on the left, Burbank high school freshman volunteer Steven Gutierrez helps Ben Ryan of Organic Gardening Supplies with worm composting demonstrations. Children and adults alike loved learning how to make new plants and taking home their own creations, fertilized with samples of OGS’s super food—worm poop. Check out Ben’s blog and his comments on the event.

A fine time was enjoyed by about 20 Sierra Club members at the King William Parade on April 25, 2009. The marchers carried signs and props and shouted slogans that supported Mission Verde.

A young entrepreneur, Luke LaBorde, drove his converted electric car in the parade. Randy Carroll-Bradd once again used his electric lawn mower to generate the power to light a compact fluorescent bulb on his hat.

Other participants who carried Sierra Club banners, props and signs included Loni Carlson, Ellen Clegg, Loyd Cortez, Elinor Froemsdorf, Wendell Fuqua, Angela Garcia, Mary Ellen Garcia, Bill Hurley, David Klar, Bill Livermore, Barbara McMillin, Ben Morrisey, Jerry Morrisey, Barbara Murray, Jim Stewart, and Karen Weehler. Special thanks are due the following people who contributed to making the props: Bill Hurley, Bill Livermore, MaryEllen Garcia, Stacy Berlfein, David Klar, Erica Zeitz, and Jerry Morrisey.
