Urban heat island - hot enough for you?
Loss of tree canopy cover has many measurable effects on the environment. As a city's tree canopy cover is destroyed, its temperatures intensify. The city becomes an urban heat island surrounded by a cooler sea of trees.
Urban heat islands generate ozone pollution, make people uncomfortable, drive up utility bills, and push away rain. In turn, increased power plant loads spew additional pollution into the air while landscape watering depletes our aquifer.
