Act to Protect Our Water!

Sierra Club - Explore, enjoy and protect the planet

Dear Friend,

We need your help.  Dangerous pollutants are threatening the health of our waters.  Nitrogen and phosphorous pollution have gotten so bad that it threatens the survival of our inland and coastal waters.

Sign our petition to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and ask that they set nitrogen and phosphorous pollution standards that protect the waters of the entire Mississippi River Basin and the Gulf of Mexico.

These standards will set the stage for addressing this problem throughout the entire United States.

In 2008, the Sierra Club along with 12 other environmental organizations asked the EPA to protect our waters from these harmful pollutants.  It's been a year and we still haven't received word if they will act on our request.

You can help us make this happen. Take action today!  Tell the EPA to protect our waters from nitrogen and phosphorous pollution.

Thanks for all you do to protect our waters!

You Can Stop Big Polluters

Sierra Club - Explore, enjoy and protect the planet

Friend,

Did you know that only a handful of huge factories and power plants emit over half of all U.S. global warming pollution?

The EPA needs your help to hold these mega-polluters accountable for their role in polluting our air--send a public comment today!

The EPA is holding a 60 day comment period on its proposed Big Polluters Rule to make the worst offenders clean up their act, and we know polluting industries are already attempting to use this time to weaken the requirements.

It is critical that we give President Obama and his EPA the support they need to stand up to Big Oil and Coal
and begin to undo the damage to our climate and economy caused by 8 years of inaction under the Bush Administration.

You can be a part of the EPA's effort to create real change that holds Big Polluters responsible by adding a comment to the public register.

The Big Polluters Rule marks one of EPA's most important commitments yet to moving us toward a clean energy economy. By requiring new or expanding Big Polluter facilities to install technology to clean up their emissions, the rule will quickly cut global warming pollution while still helping our economy grow.

Watch our animated video to learn more about the Big Polluters Rule and send a message urging the EPA to stand firm against Big Oil and Coal efforts to weaken the proposed regulation.

Thanks for all that you do to protect the environment.

Tell EPA to Stop the Texas Coal Rush

Sierra Club - Explore, enjoy and protect the planet

Dear Friend,

Tell the EPA to Stop the Texas Coal Rush!

Tell the EPA to Stop the Texas Coal Rush!

Tell the EPA to Stop the Texas Coal Rush!

Have you been noticing more about coal in the news lately?  It's because we are in the midst of the second big Coal Rush in Texas with more proposed plants than any other state in the country!

Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ruled that the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is not following the Clean Air Act.  For years, the TCEQ has been issuing air permits illegally.  Enough is enough.

Right now, the EPA is asking for your public comments!  Tell the EPA to stop the Coal Rush in Texas by making the TCEQ do it's job and enforce the Clean Air Act.

Nowhere else in the United States are citizens facing such serious public health and financial risks as we are facing in Texas because of the large number of proposed new coal plants.   There are many reasons to oppose coal plants -- they cost too much, make people sick, contribute to global warming and use enormous amounts of water.

Submit your comment today.  Tell the EPA to halt the permitting of any new coal plants until the TCEQ abides by the law.

Coal plants are a dangerous diversion from the clean power and green jobs economy that Texas is so perfectly suited for and already leading.  We can stop the second Coal Rush in Texas by making sure the TCEQ enforces the Clean Air Act. We deserve it.

For a Clean Energy Future in Texas,

Support Clean Car Standards

Sierra Club - Explore, enjoy and protect the planet

Friend,

What's the single biggest step we can take to reduce global warming emissions?

Give up? The answer is requiring our national fleet of vehicles to average 35.5 mpg, which is exactly what the Obama Administration is proposing to do.

The EPA and the Department of Transportation (DOT) need your support if they are going to follow through with strong new standards for car and light truck emissions.

The proposed standards have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 950 million metric tons over the lifetime of the vehicles sold in model years 2012-2016.1 That's the equivalent of shutting down 204 coal-fired power plants for a year!

But that's not all. During the same time period these standards could save 1.8 billion barrels of oil, which works out to $3,000 dollars over the life of a new vehicle.2 That's money we'll keep in our pockets instead of shipping it to countries like Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Libya, and Nigeria.

Tell the EPA and DOT that we can't afford to wait--send a message supporting strong vehicle emissions standards today!

It's time we take vehicle standards out of the 1970s and into the 21st century and lay a strong foundation for the cleaner vehicles we need to end our reliance on oil and curb global warming.

We need your help to win strong standards that will save us money, make our country more secure, and fight global warming.

Thanks for all that you do to protect the environment.
