The Honorable (FULL NAME)
House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Representative (LAST NAME),
Now more than ever, our country needs a sound energy policy that curbs global warming, invests in clean technology, and enhances our nation’s energy security. Raising fuel economy standards and requiring utilities to produce clean, renewable energy are smart policies that we know can work. I am writing to ask for you to support two pieces of legislation that would accomplish these goals.
The Markey-Platts fuel economy legislation (H.R. 1506) would raise miles-per-gallon standards, helping cut America’s oil dependence, saving money at the gas pump, and curbing global warming. I know that the technology exists today to make any vehicle, whether it is a car, a truck, or an SUV, get better fuel economy.
Establishing a national Renewable Energy Standard would create thousands of new jobs, diversify our energy sources, and cut greenhouse gas emissions. The Udall-Platts Renewable Energy Standard (H.R. 969) would jumpstart renewable energy production nationwide.
These policies are already working in the states and now it’s time for the federal government to act. I urge you to co-sponsor both of these pieces of legislation.
